Sixteen

Today I want to give a special shout out to a really cool dude....my baby JT. He is 16 years old today and as special to me as the day I brought him home. I can hardly believe my baby is sixteen years old. I can't possibly be old enough for my youngest child to be 6 TEEN! (ughhh). Where has the time gone?

This past weekend we celebrated his 16th birthday snowboarding in PA. Happy Birthday boo....I Love You.

Silly Siblings

This past weekend I had tons of fun hanging out with my girlfriends. I scrapbooked all weekend including today which was an unexpected bonus. We had a snow day so I spent the day finishing up assignments for the next issue of Scraps of Color E:spire.  I also completed another layout for Template Tuesday from Jessica Sprague, this one "Silly Siblings" is of me and my goofy little brother, being silly as usual. I love that dude!

Bye the way, the ladies over at the Template Tuesday blog highlighted one of my layouts. It is such an awesome feeling to have my layout recognized by such talented artists. Thanks ladies I really appreciate the recognition.

Template Tuesdays

Not sure if you noticed but lately I've been practicing the digital scrapbooking thing. I am focused this year on improving my skills and techniques so I just love to practice with freebies. Over at jessicasprague.com she is running a weekly event she calls Template Tuesdays. It's really cool because you get a free template every Tuesday and your encouraged to share your layout in her gallery.  The more you share the more points you get. The points are later redeemable for discounts in her store, and I just love her store. Digi scrappers should really go check it out. Here are a couple of layouts I made with this months templates.

Valentine's Weekend

My Valentine's weekend was so much better than I thought it would be. Frank and I went to McFadden Art Glass in Baltimore where we got the chance to make a one of a kind glass heart ornament. It was awesome!

Photos: Not Just For Books and Frames

We all know that photos can be preserved and enjoyed in scrapbooks and in picture frames, but have you ever used photos to personalize your decor? One of the things I love most about photography and crafting is the ability to create beautiful things that have meaning to me and my family. A few years ago I visited a friend who had some really cool, Afro-centric themed switch plates in her beautifully decorated basement. When we recently decided to create a media room in our basement I knew I had to do something special with the switch plates.  Check them out.

This is actually a very easy project to complete. Here is how:

  1. You can start with the existing switch plate as I did or start with a new one.
  2. Resize the image as necessary so that it will fit over the switch plate. I tinted my images to match the decor of the room.
  3. Print your image on regular printer paper. I find photo paper hard to deal with.
  4. Once you've determined the placement of the photo, apply Mod Podge to the front of the switch plate and the back of the photo. For best results make sure you apply to both.
  5. Apply photo to switch plate and smooth with your hands, being careful not to tear photo. Wrap excess around to the back of switch plate and trim as necessary.
  6. Carefully cut out the spot for the switch and poke through paper for the screws.
  7. Apply Mod Podge to the front of photo and let dry.

Just imagine the possibilities, I hope you try this.

Canvas Album

I've been in an emotional funk lately so it's been really hard to get the scrapbooking mojo going. I've been working on this project for about two months, on and off. I finally gathered enough energy to finish. This was my first time working with canvas so I wasn't really sure where I was going with it but I new I wanted it to be colorful and bright. I used the Maya Road 3-Ring Rectangular Canvas Album, each one comes with 6 pages so I put two together to have enough. It was tedious work, but I like the way it came out.

See the rest of the album here. Let me know what you think.

Scrapbook Shopping Hiatus

You have to check out this video. A scrapbooker with an obvious obsession for stuff, gives us a video tour of her scrapbook room. This is my motivation to use more of the scrapbook stuff I already have before I buy new stuff. I would never want to get like that. For the month of February I am making a promise not to buy anything scrapbook related. NOTHING - NADA - and as my mama would say it.....NO'SING! I am hoping my family and friends keep me honest. Who wants to join me?

I've Been Published

Woohoo!  I'm excited about the premiere issue of Scraps of Color E:spire Scrapbooking Magazine. This was truly a labor of love by the entire creative team. The February/March issue is jam packed with tutorials, tips, ideas and inspiring layouts. Best of all, the magazine is FREE, so follow the link to get your own pdf copy. Check out my contributions on pages 20,44,53 & 59. My article "Gettin' Digi With It" is on page 61.

Here is a layout I created for the magazine that was accidentally left out. I hope you like it.
